Guiding Question
What impact did Indian women immigrating to America in the 1900s have on the country? On them? On industrial, economic, and geopolitical patterns and phenomena?
Historical Context
American history often seems as if it has no space for the stories of Indian women. In the 21st century - an era where historians have finally begun work to uncover the untold stories of American history, Indian women and girls still do not see themselves in textbooks and museums. This digital exhibit is there to tell that story- and we start with the 1900s and one singular woman named Kala Bagai, who in time would be known as Mother India.
